A system of central software and distributed devices
The Ipanema Autonomic Networking System consists of:
- Central management software called IMSS (Ipanema Management Software Suite) for all system management tasks (configuration, reporting database, front office web portal, etc.). A multi-tenant version of the central management is called SALSA (Scalable Application Level Service Architecture) and enables Telcos and Managed Service Providers to create industrialized application-centric services.
- Specialized devices called ip|engines are installed at all enterprise’s main sites (data centers, headquarters) and sometimes at branch offices.

The Ipanema System features all the required characteristics for a safe deployment on the most critical networks:
Resilient
- Each ip|engine includes a hardware failsafe with fail-open or fail-close options
- Self-healing capabilities ensure service continuity in case of a device failure
Easy to manage
- Devices do not require local configuration
- Self-configured, the management workload is nearly zero whatever the network size
- Management tasks are performed centrally and apply to the entire system
- Web GUI provides an intuitive way of managing the system centrally
- Global command-line interface (CLI) allows administrators to extend management at will
Transparent
- Agnostic to transport technologies (MPLS, Frame Relay, Ethernet, Leased Line, IP-Sec, etc.)
- Operations are fully transparent to the network and the IT infrastructure
- Compatible with MPLS CoS (Classes of Service)
Easy to deploy
- Supports asymmetric routing
- Supports redundant router configurations
- Supports Multi-VPN
Secure
- Communications among Ipanema’s central software and devices are encrypted
- Data cached on ip|engines are encrypted
Easy to extend
- Centralized and modular approach easily adpts to evolving needs
- Ability to deliver benefits on unequipped sites allows a fast and global reach
